The SCIROS Research Blog will focus on the topic of Open Science within the context of the humanities and social sciences (SSH). It will explore the theoretical, practical, and infrastructural aspects of Open Science, addressing key questions such as its ethical foundations, its global and institutional practices, or open research infrastructures.
The blog serves as a platform to document and share insights from interdisciplinary research conducted within the SCIROS project—Strategic Collaboration for Interdisciplinary Research on Open Science in the Social Sciences and Humanities. This initiative unites international partners – IBL PAN and six other research performing organisations – to address critical gaps in empirical studies on the effectiveness of Open Science for the academic community.
The blog’s editorial approach is guided by the aim to systematize and communicate research findings in a clear, accessible, and academically rigorous manner. Posts will be structured around the three central themes of the SCIROS project:
- Theory of Open Science (TOS) – exploring the history, ethical justifications, and current role of Open Science in the modern world.
- Open Science Practice (POS) – analysing how Open Science is implemented at the international, national, and institutional levels, with particular attention to multilingualism and publication practices.
- Infrastructure of Open Science (IOS) – investigating the research infrastructures and business models that support them.
Content will include: research findings, case studies, interviews with experts, and reflections on workshops and study visits conducted as part of the SCIROS project.
The primary objective of the blog is to disseminate the findings of the SCIROS project to both academia and the broader scientific community. By doing so, the blog aims to foster international collaboration, share innovative models and practices related to Open Science, and contribute to the ongoing discourse on OS practices.

OpenEdition (France): Focused on questions surrounding epistemic diversity in OS infrastructures and the governance of research platforms, OpenEdition explores how infrastructure management shapes academic practices and fosters diversity.
Technical University of Munich (TUM, Germany): Investigates the optimisation of open science practices and their broader implications, as well as the balance between innovation and stability within OS systems.
University of Luxembourg (Luxembourg): Concentrates on the practical dimensions of open science, including tools, methodologies, and sustainability challenges.
University of Coimbra (Portugal): Examines the intersection of open science with societal impact, inclusivity, and accountability. Their work aligns OS practices with social diplomacy.
CSIL – Centre for Industrial Studies (Italy): Specialises in measuring the impact of open science on society and the economy. They are particularly interested in exploring efficiency and the societal benefits of OS principles.
Hanken School of Economics (Finland): Explores collaborative approaches to interdisciplinary projects and seeks to expand the inclusivity of OS by enhancing research integrity and societal engagement.
